Boy Scouts
I am a member of the Boy Scouts, and have enjoyed the opportunity to learn valuable outdoor skills. Having participated in Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts since the first grade, I have been camping in various locations, including at Mammoth Caves. In my time at Boy Scouts, I have learned skills ranging from starting a fire in the rain, to managing a large project, and multiple students, in restoration projects. As Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, I also helped lead the troop to teach skills to younger members.
I am an Eagle Scout, which I achieved in December. I have worked with the Beavercreek Wetlands to help address the problem of flooding in the trails. A layer of geo-textile is laid to allow water to leave the trail, and to flow back into the ground. To keep the geo-textile from moving, a layer of gravel is poured on top. This project will allow people to continue walking through the trails at all times of the year.
Boy Scouts has given me the opportunity to gain valuable experience in areas that I would not usually participate in, and is an activity that I truly enjoyed.
